Articulo Mortis: Interview with Isivred (Malaysia) (ENG)

Country: Malaysia
From: Negeri Sembilan, Pahang
Genre: Black Metal

1. AM: Greetings! How are you? Tell us about your duo.

Isivred: Isivred is a black metal duo from Malaysia, formed in 2024 by Ariffxorcist and Herryskins. Both of us handle guitars and songwriting, shaping the core of our sound. Currently, we collaborate with Ariff from Modar as our session drummer, whose haunting beats complete the atmosphere we aim to create.

2. AM: What does the name Isivred mean? What meaning do you put into this name?

Isivred: Honestly, Isivred doesn’t have a specific meaning. It has a vague origin, but nothing remarkable. We just wanted something different, a name with no clear definition but that carries a certain mystique, almost like it could be Nordic or ancient in nature. Sometimes, the best names are the ones that ruin your expectations, leave you questioning their meaning, your life, and whether the band did drugs. Spoiler: we didn’t, but hey, the existential dread is real. Haha!

3. AM: How would you describe your music in a few words?

Isivred: A surge of pure hatred, drowning in evil, and rising through screams of pain and rage.

4. AM: The music sounds great. How long did it take to materialize Isivred? Did you have any musical experience before this band?

Isivred: It took about three months to bring Isivred to life. Ariffxorcist has played with some Malaysian local Bands as sessionist (AJAL and SIAL), has formed a Melodic Black Metal Band in 2007 but the band meets their ends on the same year they’re formed.  As for Herryskins, he previously played in a skinhead band called Street Soldiers, so we both have some background in different subgenres. One Band that inspired us to formed this Band is Order from Norway. Thank you so much to you and your zine for digging our band, and thanks for your compliment. It's an honour.

5. AM: Reading your lyrics, I couldn’t help but think – have you ever thought about writing lyrics in Malay?

Isivred: Yes, we’ve already considered it and have plans to incorporate more Malay lyrics in our future material. It’s something we want to explore further, and our next release might feature a significant amount of tracks in Malay.

6. AM: Have you already managed to give live performances? Or is the band planning to exist in a studio version?
Isivred:
Initially, we planned to keep Isivred as a studio band. However, live performances are necessary for some promotion, so we’ve started preparing for shows. We’ll be playing in Penang towards the end of the year and have another show lined up in Kuala Lumpur in February 2025.

7. AM: What are your plans for the future? What is the goal of Isivred?

Isivred: Our future plans are still quite uncertain... or dark, haha! But for now, our goal is simple: to keep creating music and sharing it with black metal enthusiasts. We’re not aiming for something grand just yet. For now, we’re focusing on building a solid foundation and seeing how the audience responds to our work.

8. AM: Tell us about the Malaysian black metal underground. I haven’t had a chance to visit your region yet, and it would be interesting to know some facts.

Isivred: The Malaysian black metal scene is relatively small and often overlaps with the broader metal underground. It’s rare to have shows dedicated exclusively to black metal. Usually, the shows are mixed with various subgenres. The scene is tight-knit, and everyone supports one another because we can’t afford to be too isolated or individualistic. Growth here is a collective effort, with the entire underground metal scene working together.

9. AM: Thanks to your band, I learned about the SMIXX label, which released your debut work. Tell us about your collaboration.

Isivred: Our collaboration with Dino, the driving force behind SMIXX, has been great. He’s been active in promoting our music. So far, we’ve sold around 70 CDs across two pressings—the first from SMIXX and the second a collaboration between SMIXX and MTD Production. Additionally, we released 16 cassette tapes, all of which have already sold out.

10. AM: Which local band often plays in your player?

Isivred: For black metal, Neftaraka, As-Sahar, Goatlusting Chaos, Abdi and Filsufatia. Oi! music are frequent listens. For death metal, we’re into bands like Langsuyr and Sil Khannaz. These bands have left a significant mark on the Malaysian metal scene.

11. AM: Thanks for the interview. Any final words to the readers?

Isivred: Thank you for reading and showing interest in Isivred. Keep supporting the Black Metal scene, and remember-keep politics out of music. Music is meant to be free, raw, and untainted. Stay relentless.

Articulo Mortis: Interview with Matadör (Brazil) (ENG)

Matadör
Country: Brazil
From: Curitiba, Paraná
Genre: Black/Thrash Metal

1. AM: Greetings! Introduce yourself and tell us a little about your band.

Matadör: Hail to all the readers! I am V. Soulripper from Matadör. Well, Matadör is a black/thrash/speed metal banda from the south brazilian lands always seeking influences in the necro-abyss of the 80s and 90s bringing together all our extreme and heavy influences in an apocalyptic blitzkrieg of darkness and evil.

2. AM: Why did you decide to call the band Matadör? I know the meaning of this word, but I wonder what meaning you put into it.

Matadör: We chose this name because it sounds short and direct, a simple message of violence and filth.

3. AM: You recently released a new release Full Moon Tales, congratulations. Tell us about the concept of this release.

Matadör: Thank you for the congratulations! The concept of the album came about based on the idea of bringing together five songs with unique lyrics, in a format of five tales of darkness and evil. We were inspired by the concept of works like “Tales From the Crypt” and other horror anthologies.

4. AM: And a few words about the cover too... I've started to come across this person Darkpen among descriptions quite often. Tell us a little about him and your collaboration.

Matadör: He is the evil mastermind behind some of the best covers in Brazilian underground today! This cover was a collaboration between him and another artist Jhonata Hellfire, where Darkpen did the art and Hellfire did the colors.

5. AM: Veles Vialies from Blasphemaniac helped you record Full Moon Tales. How did the idea come about to involve him in this work?

Matadör: Count Veles participation in the work was something natural, he was hired from the beginning to be the producer of this work, and as the band at the time was a one man band, with only my friend Victor Hugo helping me with recording the drums, I asked Veles to participate in recording the strings.

6. AM: You recently performed as an opening act for Sabbat gig in Brazil, tell us how it was?

Matadör: It was”absolutely killer!! It’s an honor to be able to share the stage with Sabbat and other powerful entities from the TRUE Brazilian underground. Besides, it was our first show outside our hometown, and it was without a doubt a remarkable experience with ups and downs.

7. AM: In addition, I saw a number of posters from your gigs. Who did Matadör share the stage with?

Matadör: Since our first show we have shared the stage with some good underground bands, some of which deserve to be highlighted are Iron Bastard, Blasphemaniac, CaosCultoMorte, Speedkiller, Sombrio and Rabaellion. And in two days on 11/15 we will share the stage with Profane Souls, Abadon and Ar da Desgraça.

8. AM: How are you different from other Black/Thrash bands?

Matadör: A really great question!! That what can make us different from other bands of the genre is our great desire not to sound the same as all the other bands. It may seem like an obvious answer, but lately I’ve noticed a large number of bands that just try to sound and look like other bands that already exist. We have authenticity as a big principle! And we always seek to differentiate ourselves in some way from what everyone else is already doing, but of course without wanting to be too inventive, but being AUTHENTIC within the old school and dirty sound that we make.

9. AM: Plans for the future? Are you planning to release a full-length album?

Matadör: Yes! We have big plans for the future, we have some songs that were left out of the EP that we would like to use for a possible split with a band, we don’t have a name in mind yet, but we are looking for bands. Now we are starting the compositions for our first Full Lenth, we already have some songs ready and a new alternative logo made by Yan Violador from Blapshemaniac. About this future Full Lenth all I can say is… wait for a BLACK HEAVY METAL STRIKE!

10. AM: If you were to go on a big tour, who would you go with?

Matadör: Well, there is a good list of national bands that I would like to tour with something like that would be really cool alongside Blasphemaniac, Iron Bastard, Speedkiller, Gorgona… bands that I respect and like.

11. AM: Recommend a few good underground bands from your region.

Matadör: Bands from my state that deserve to be mentioned! Gorgona, Profane Souls, Abadon, Cülpado, Offal, Creatures, Murder Rape, Evilwar, Evil Exorcist, Hecatomb, Rot Remains, Eternal Sorrow, Poison Beer and Murdeath. And some others from the active Brazilian TRUE underground that I’m totally into: Blasphemaniac, Iron Bastard, Necrogosto, Morbid Perversion, The Black Spade, Sevo, Svlfvr, Fantome Oublie, Unconquerable, Tormentador, Força Obscura, Speedkiller, Sadophalus, Antichrist Hooligans, Açoite, Torches of Nero, Colapsus, Krushhammer, Promethean Gate and others that I couldn’t get to remember now.

12. AM: Any final words for readers?

Matadör: Yes! Matadör support the TRUE necroundergorund! Please get in touch via [email protected]

No posers, no trendies, no wimps and of course NO WHITE METAL SCOURGE!!!
