1. AM: Salve, NHSH! We already communicated with you a couple of years ago on the page of another zine and within another band... we are surrounded by a series of other events, and we communicate about SVLFVR. Pass the word on to your bandmates or tell them about them yourself. What is SVLFVR, how did it come about, and what the fucking hell do you have going on there.
SVLFVR: Salve, Vladislav! SVLFVR was formed 8 years ago to materialize the most putrid and lethal Black/Death Metal for the greater glory of Satan. During this time, there were numerous formation changes for the most diverse reasons, from disagreements and intrigues to drug abuse and anxiety/depression, a lot of negative, inferior, chthonic energy was emanated and channeled, and we are releasing our fifth work, having in our discography two demos, a split and two eps, as well as some live rituals here and in nearby states. We are the metastasis of the void in the bowels of existence and there is no return!
2. AM: How would you describe your musical style? What is your sound? When I listened to your recordings, I noticed how their style changed towards more angry and serious. There is no longer a place for cover of the Impaled Nazarene (never liked this band), the sound has become more death metal and evil. What is this connected with?
SVLFVR: We are a Black Metal band made up of people who have the most varied musical references possible and can perceive and absorb the evil expressed by both Beherit and Mercyful Fate, and this is reflected in our work. The changes that Svlfvr underwent throughout its journey, in no way happened in a noticeable or planned way, they are a reflection of our changes as individuals, the constant search for new bands or the rediscovery of old bands, the interest in improving how musicians, trying to understand how the production of phonographic material works, how to best tone an instrument or arrange a song, however, Svlfvr's creative verve has been the same since its inception, lyrics and riffs are vomited in altered states of consciousness, what fills us, stays, otherwise it is mowed down without mercy, there is no room for the ego, as our hands and throats are only conductors of His words. The result of this is what we call PRIMITIVO METAL DIABÓLICO. About Impaled Nazarene, we are Satan's generation, and we don't give a fuck.
3. AM: Tell us about the reshuffle in the band, how did it happen, for example, that the drummer took the place of backing vocalist and guitarist? How stable is your lineup and do you currently have common goals for the band or do you only meet for rehearsals.
SVLFVR: There is something within Svlfvr that makes it difficult for anyone who does not give their body and soul to the cause to remain, and our history is marked by constant disaffection and disagreements between members, whether due to intrigues created by third parties, drug addiction or simply the lack of interest from some former members in continuing to serve as vessel of the black abyss. We definitely don't have Svlfvr as a weekend hobby, to play rock and roll, drink beer and have fun, our rehearsals are tiring, as a lot of energy (from the most varied sources) is released, the recording, production and waiting for the pressing and release of our works generates more anxiety and torment than pleasure, and the obsession we have with the band has ruined our lives. The definitive formation of Svlfvr is the three-headed beast composed of C.D.V, A.S.V. and NHSH, and since the recording of our new EP, Diabolic Ritual of Steel, anyone who passes through the role of drummer to record or play live will be a session member. I switched from drums to guitar and backing vocals because that's my instrument, and my skills as a drummer are far removed from Svlfvr's needs.
4. AM: What's going on with black metal in Brazil? While communicating with different people, I heard phrases like “I don’t like people from Sao Paulo” or “I don’t like people from Rio de Janeiro.” What does all this have to do with it? Personally, I hate people in general.
SVLFVR: The truth is that Brazil has a countless number of bands from the most diverse forms of black metal possible, but those that do truly obsessed and fanatical work are few, the vast majority are content with demos and CDs recorded and mixed in any possible way and with the exposure that Instagram and other social networks provide, most likely for this reason, the people you keep in touch with should not take most of the bands that exist in the country seriously, as they do not take themselves seriously and want to be impose through pasteurized and repeated speeches about how they are anti-Christian and satanic and deserve attention for that reason; In the end, it's all just an extremely forced hobby with fragile foundations that can't stand the passage of time. It's not very difficult to identify who is doing the true work of the Devil and who is just looking for attention.
5. AM: I also heard that in Brazil Christian groups in the form of Catholics are very influential. How does this hinder or help the devilish propaganda in the country? In Russia, there are a number of laws that implement the interaction of the feelings of believers, because of which the propaganda of Satanism can lead to imprisonment. Do you have the same?
SVLFVR: In Brazil, Catholicism exists and is very present, but over the last few years evangelicals have taken on a gigantic form and infiltrated politics, always throwing their faith into issues from which they should stay away. Our country must have a liberal image to others, but in reality, Brazil is an extremely conservative country beneath the surface. Evangelicals serve as leverage for a theocratic project that seems increasingly palpable and present. The power that religion exercises here will always be fuel for our blasphemies.
6. AM: What is your goal when promoting SVLFVR music? What are you missing to make it even better and bigger?
SVLFVR: The main objective is to materialize our praise to the Devil in the form of sonic torment and visual aggression, externalizing the demons that do not fit within us. Our greatest pleasure is receiving the physical material, opening it, putting it on the stereo and listening to what we did, leafing through and smelling the booklet, just like we do with the materials of the bands that inspire us. There is no vanity or demagogic speech, our work has become increasingly larger and better defined, as our steps are taken with the firmness of His cloven hooves!
7. AM: How do you see the Black/Death Metal scene developing nowadays? What changes have you noticed and who would you name as a candidate of the year in the “fuck him?” categories.
SVLFVR: In terms of production, I believe we are at a very high point in the history of Black/Death Metal, given the number of good records being released every day. The ease of recording/mixing that technological advances have brought us has led to the emergence of countless bands doing more of the same, at the same time that it has given rise to many authentic and devoted bands, some taking a more traditional sound line and adding their own identity, and others making sinister music like never before, see for example this most dissonant Black Metal made by post-Deathspell Omega in "Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice" bands. There is also a greater concern with aesthetics and the creation of a more unique image, just look at the covers and photos of many of today's bands, which are increasingly artistic and unexpected. It seems that there is less and less space for speech to the detriment of doing what really needs to be done. Regarding the end of your question, we don't care about what we don't like as much as we don't care about pleasing.
8. AM: What bands from your region surround you that you could highlight for people who are very far away from you and would never know about them. It may not necessarily be extreme metal; sometimes the nuggets that carry the Words of the Devil appear in the most unexpected Images.
SVLFVR: Some recently released material by bands with real devotion: Hinarivm - Vltra Terminvs Creatvrae ex Lvcifer Coronatvs, Blasphemaniac - Night of the Necromancer, Necrogosto - Sudakaos, Sevo - Aurora do Triunfo Herétiko, Morbid Perversion - Infamous Dogmas of Sacrifice, Power From Hell - Shadows Devouring Light, The Black Spade - E do Fim se faz o Início, Grave Desecrator - Immundissime Spiritus, Outlaw - Reaching Beyond Assiah, Cursed Excruciation - Arcane Diabolism, Trance of the Undead - Chalice of Disease, Witching Altar - Morningstar. Furthermore, there are some albums that for me are modern classics, released after the 2000s, and that anyone interested in Brazilian Black Metal needs to know: Pactum - Summa Imperii Satanae 666, Osculum Obscenum - Body Hurting Art, Hecate - Odes ao Oculto, Nocturnal Worshipper - The Return of the Southern Tyrants, Vultos Vocíferos - Ao Eterno Abismo.
9. AM: The classic question about plans. What about a full-length album? SVLFVR has been around for almost 10 years, maybe you will celebrate the 11th anniversary with a big album of new songs?
SVLFVR: We have just recorded our new vomit, the EP "Diabolic Ritual of Steel", which has two new tracks and the re-recording of the four songs from the first demo, "Bestial Sonic Attack" with the look that Svlfvr has nowadays, After almost 10 years of being in the band, things became more severe and aggressive. It will be released in different formats around the globe, on CD in Brazil through Black Hearts and my label Gospel Below, and on cassette in Chile via Morbid Ways to Die and in Russia via Primitive Devil Worship, we continue looking for a label dedicated person who is able to release this work on vinyl, as this is our ultimate goal for it. We have two songs for a possible split with НЕЖИВОЙ (Nezhivoy), and some conceptual lyrics, without music yet, that will be part of our full length "VOID METASTHASIS", still without a preview.
10. AM: The sound is different among most Brazilian bands and is more similar to American and European bands. Was it a conscious desire to play that something happened or did it lead to success?
SVLFVR: There are two specific lines of Black Metal made in Brazil: the one made by Cogumelo bands in the 80s, and what they call "Brazilian Black Metal", made by most bands from the 90s, heavily influenced by Samael and the bands who created Greek Black Metal. Personally, I think that both are quite saturated and full of copies of other copies, and I have no interest in creating yet another band to do what everyone else is already doing. When we make our music, we don't try to sound like this or that band, or make them sound more heavy, thrash, death or black metal, we simply open our minds to serve as nexions through which the voices and sounds that culminate in music manifest themselves. As I said before, our references are very diverse, and everything we hear ends up impacting our sound in one way or another, so, listening to us, you will find Slayer, Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Running Wild, Motorhead, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Sepultura, Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Mortuary Drape, Master's Hammer, Root, Destroyer 666, Nifelheim, Bewitched, Absu, Katharsis, among other creator gods of More visceral metal, as you will also see references from more recent bands, such as Bestial Mockery, Darvaza, Slaughtbbath, Force of Darkness, Bolzer, Chaos Invocation, Inconcessus Lux Lucis, in short, everything we hear and appreciate ends up influencing us, and we don't care really where these bands are from.
11. AM: I wish you to desecrate how you can take a shower that you can reach. Glory to the Darkness, which works every night. Glory to the fire that burns from within. Glory to all the horrors that continue around us. Glory to the Devil!
SVLFVR: Sheep dressed like wolves, beware, this is enemy ground!
